Phuket Rest Days: Blue Tree & Andamanda Guide

4 พฤษภาคม 2569

Two land-based Phuket attractions that keep families happy between dive days — a lifestyle hub and Thailand's biggest water park.

Why Rest Days in Phuket Don't Have to Mean Sitting by the Pool

Every diver who books a multi-day trip to the Similans or Racha Islands eventually faces the same question: what do we do on the day off? Surface intervals, family members who don't dive, monsoon-season downpours — there are plenty of reasons to stay out of the ocean for a day. The good news is that modern Phuket has evolved well beyond beach-only entertainment.

Two venues stand out for land-based fun: Blue Tree Phuket, a 56-acre lifestyle complex in Cherng Talay, and Andamanda Water Park, a Thai-mythology-themed water park in Kathu that has grown into one of Southeast Asia's most ambitious splash destinations. Together they cover every age group and energy level — from toddlers in soft-play zones to adults racing down near-vertical slides.

Blue Tree Phuket: The Lifestyle Hub That Replaced a Lagoon

Blue Tree opened in 2019 with a centrepiece 17,000-square-metre man-made lagoon offering slides, cliff jumping, and paddle sports. After the pandemic years thinned visitor numbers and Andamanda opened with a bigger ride roster in 2022, the lagoon closed permanently in August 2024. The complex has since reinvented itself as a family-friendly lifestyle and community mall — and, frankly, it fills a gap Phuket was missing.

What's There Now

The 56-acre grounds are open daily from 06:00 to 23:00 with free entry to the general campus. Here is what earns the stop:

AttractionBest ForPrice (THB)
Adventure Village (indoor)Kids 3-12 / active teens400/hr or 700 day pass
Kids PlanetToddlers & preschoolersIncluded with Adventure Village
Skate ParkSkaters, longboarders, surf-skatersFree
Forest Park (5 km trails)Joggers, cyclists, familiesFree
Padel Tennis CourtsActive adultsFrom 400/session

Adventure Village is the headline for families. The air-conditioned indoor arena packs in trampolines, a zipline, donut slides, bumper cars, a ninja-warrior course, net climbing, and a Lego zone for younger builders. Grip socks (60 THB at the desk) are mandatory. Opening hours: 10:00 – 22:00 daily, no booking required.

Behind the mall, Forest Park offers 5 km of shaded jogging and biking trails, fitness stations, and a pump track — all free. It is popular with residents and a genuinely pleasant morning walk before heading to a dive briefing.

Dining & Practical Details

Blue Tree's restaurant row spans food trucks to sit-down spots with Thai, Japanese, and Western menus. Prices lean tourist-area rather than local-market (expect 200-400 THB per dish at sit-down places). For cheaper eats nearby, the Cherng Talay Tuesday market is a short ride away — or consider a detour to Phuket Old Town's 50-baht Michelin noodles.

Location: 4/2 Srisoonthorn Road, Cherng Talay — roughly 20 minutes from Patong, 10 minutes from Bang Tao Beach.
Getting there: Grab taxi or hotel shuttle. Free parking on site.

Andamanda Water Park: Southeast Asia's Expanding Splash Kingdom

Opened in June 2022 at a reported 4-billion-baht investment, Andamanda occupies a landscaped hillside in Kathu and draws on Thai mythology for its theming — Naga serpents frame the slides, Kinnaree temples top the towers, and Garuda wings decorate the free-fall drops. It is not subtle. It is, however, genuinely impressive in scale.

The Five Themed Zones

ZoneHighlightsThrill Level
The Great Andaman BayWave pool (up to 3 m waves), 300 m beachMedium
Naga JungleRacing slides, free-fall drops, Garuda Soars (5/5 thrill)High
Emerald ForestThailand's first dueling Master Blaster, longest slide, transparent poolHigh
Coral WorldSplash zones, family raft rides, kids' poolsLow-Medium
Pearl PalaceVIP cabanas, relaxation poolsLow

The numbers have grown since opening day: the park now claims 25+ attractions and up to 36 water slides. Asia's longest lazy river (550 m) winds through the grounds and is genuinely relaxing — expect a 20-minute float.

Pro tip: Book through the Andamanda app at least one day ahead for the discounted rate. Third-party platforms (Klook, KKday, GetYourGuide) occasionally offer bigger cuts, especially during off-peak months.

Hours: Park Zone 10:00 – 18:00, Emerald Forest 10:00 – 19:00, open daily year-round.
Location: 333 Kathu, Kathu District — about 15 minutes from Phuket Town, 30 minutes from Patong. Free parking.

Beating the Crowds

Weekday mornings see the shortest queues. Between 12:00 and 16:00 on weekends and holidays, the multi-person raft rides can accumulate 30-40 minute waits. Arriving at opening (10:00) and hitting the high-thrill zones first — Naga Jungle, then Emerald Forest — maximises ride-to-wait ratio.

The Diver's Angle: Why These Venues Matter

Neither Blue Tree nor Andamanda involves the ocean. That is the point. After a morning of repetitive nitrogen loading on a Similan liveaboard, an afternoon spent hurtling down freshwater slides carries zero decompression risk. More importantly for travelling dive families:

  • Non-diving partners and children get a full day of entertainment that doesn't revolve around waiting on a boat.
  • Rainy-season visitors (May – October) gain an all-weather backup — Andamanda runs rain or shine, and Blue Tree's Adventure Village is fully indoors.
  • Budget balancing: A family day at Andamanda (two adults, one child at ~4,800 THB total) costs roughly what a single Racha day-trip costs per person. When you compare that to the price of a Maldives week versus two Similan safaris, Phuket's value proposition becomes even clearer.

Planning a Combined Rest Day

A well-paced rest day could combine both venues:

  1. Morning (08:00 – 09:30): Jog or cycle the free Forest Park trails at Blue Tree while it's cool.
  2. Brunch (09:30 – 10:30): Eat at Blue Tree's restaurant row or grab coffee at one of the cafes.
  3. Midday (10:30 – 16:30): Drive 25 minutes to Andamanda for a full water park session. Hit the big slides first, lazy river after lunch.
  4. Late afternoon (17:00+): Return to Blue Tree or head to Cherng Talay for sunset dinner.

Alternatively, families with very young children (under 91 cm, free entry at Andamanda) might prefer a morning at Adventure Village followed by an afternoon at the wave pool and Coral World splash zone — both sites cater well to small kids.

Getting There & Logistics

Blue Tree: Srisoonthorn Road, Cherng Talay. Convenient if staying in Bang Tao, Surin, or Laguna area. A Grab from Patong runs about 400-500 THB.

Andamanda: Route 4024, Kathu. Midway between Patong and Phuket Town. Grab from Patong roughly 200-300 THB. The park also offers shuttle transfers bookable through their website.

Both venues have free parking. Neither requires advance booking for general admission, though Andamanda app pre-purchase saves money.

The Bottom Line

Phuket's above-water entertainment has matured significantly. Blue Tree fills the lifestyle-and-kids niche with free-entry grounds, indoor adventure play, and shaded trails. Andamanda delivers the full-scale water park experience that Southeast Asia was missing outside of Bangkok. For divers, the calculation is simple: one of these venues turns a mandatory rest day into a highlight of the trip — especially if you're travelling with family who'd rather ride a lazy river than watch you kit up at dawn.

Prices and hours verified as of early 2026. Check venue websites for seasonal promotions.
